The Friends
of the Newark Monastery is a non-profit organization formed by a
group of lay Catholics who, at the request of Fr. Benedict Groeschel,
arranged to finance and purchase the Most
Blessed Sacrament Friary (formerly the Monastery of St. Dominic) so that the
Franciscan Friars of the Renewal could bring their mission of
evangelization, renewal and service to the poor of the Newark, New
Jersey area. |
The Friends of the Newark Monastery continue to assist with the maintenance of the Most Blessed Sacrament Friary. The property is very old and in constant need of repair. Old piping and appliances need to be upgraded. Crumbling walls need to be reinforced and weathered windows need to be replaced. Additionally, irreplaceable items such as stained-glass windows need to be preserved, and if possible, restored to their original condition. |
With the help of generous
donors and benefactors, we are able to continue our mission of
maintaining the Most Blessed Sacrament Friary so that the Franciscan
Friars of the Renewal could remain in Newark and continue their mission
with the poor. |
